Wednesday blitz tournament

TuTS organizes a blitz tournament every Wednesday at 6:30 pm. The tournament is played on Ruiskatu Campus at Ruiskatu 8 C. Sign up is around 6:15 to 6:30 pm. The tournament ends around 9:00 pm to 9:30 pm.

The time controls are 3 minutes with 2 second increment per move. The tournament is played in groups based on your skill level. Everyone is welcome to join, no previous experience is required. The club's own blitz rating is calculated based on the tournaments.

After the blitz tournament many of us gather in Proffan Kellari around 9:30 pm to 10:00 pm to play some more chess. You're welcome to join us in Proffan Kellari even though you wouldn't participate in the blitz tournament. The age limit to Proffan Kellari is 18 years.

Participation fees

Participation fees to the blitz tournament are as follows:

• adults 5 EUR

• students 3 EUR and

• youth players 2 EUR (everyone under 20 years old).

The fee is payed during sign up in cash. Titled players can participate for free. Also first time participating in the tournament is free. If you're participating for the first time, please let us know when you're signing up.

Prize money

Prize money will be payed to each groups top three players as follows:

The prize money won't be payed individually after each tournament, rather the prize money accumulates to the player's account. You can cash out your account by contacting our treasurer Tanja Tuominen (tanja.m.tuominen@gmail.com). You can also ask about the taxation of the prize money.

The prize money account will be reset if a player hasn't participated in the blitz tournament during the current year and for the past four years before that. For example at the end of 2026 the account will be reset for the players who haven't participated during the years 2022–2026. Please notice that participating in our other events doesn't count towards not resetting your account. However, you can contact our treasurer to maintain your account for the next five years even without playing.
